Renewable Energy Procurement

Why

We believe in the power of leadership. Both public and private sectors are calling for strategic, measurable curtailment of carbon-based energy. Leading in the renewable energy landscape is not only responsive to your stakeholders, but strategic for your company. Carbon reporting and reduction mandates are imminent and renewable energy is one of the lowest friction ways to meet these requirements. Deregulated markets, new legislation, tax deductions and incentives all create an opportunity for your company to discover the financial and environmental benefits of renewable energy.

How

We believe in customizing energy solutions to fit your company’s unique goals. The world of renewables includes many different avenues to execute your practical energy needs along with your aspirational sustainability targets. At Foresight, our first step is to evaluate your vision, budget, and regional options. Whether for one facility or your entire company portfolio, we will help you confidently navigate the rapidly changing landscape of energy procurement.

Fossil fuels are often referred to as “brown energy”, while renewables carry the nickname “green energy”. The term “greening the grid” refers to the gradual increase of renewable energy across the country, either through direct procurement when available or Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), which offset brown energy usage. If you are interested in RECs, we can coordinate the purchase of Green E Certified RECs, which is the quickest way to reduce your overall carbon footprint.

If you are interested in mixing RECs with direct renewable energy, we can evaluate the suppliers for either bundled or unbundled options. Bundled renewable energy is when you purchase RECs and electricity from the same renewable asset. Our Certified Energy Procurement specialists can look across your portfolio to pursue the most strategic avenues for each facility depending on the regulations of the market.

If an organization is looking to create a larger impact than RECs, investing in onsite renewables could be an option. Depending on rebates, incentives, and regulations in your area, capital investment in onsite renewables could be the most strategic, financially savvy solution. Our engineers can help map out the finances, vendors, and ROI pathway for these capital projects.

Case Study

Client Profile: Global furniture manufacturer

Before Foresight:
At their largest manufacturing facility, this company had traditionally purchased brown energy from a local cooperative. They were mixing in 30-40% renewable energy through RECs, yet were not confident in their procurement strategy. Despite their intentions to increase renewable electricity, they were not finding viable options for their size, budget, and goals.

After Foresight: Our procurement specialists worked to find various avenues for this company to meet its sustainability objectives and remain within its fiscal means. We identified a supplier within the state who could provide 100% bundled renewable energy. In addition to surpassing their carbon reduction goals, we helped them negotiate a more competitive rate for their electricity. We provided our client with a pathway to 100% regionalized, bundled renewable energy that increased their profitability for an all-around win.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a difference between using and buying 100% renewable?

While you can claim to purchase only renewable energy, you cannot claim to consume 100% renewable energy unless you are separated from the grid. The grid cannot segregate electrons that are delivered to a customer, but your purchase can support renewable energy. “Greening the grid” requires every company to adopt renewable options.

Can you do a consultation to help us understand our options?

We can do a feasibility study without purchasing energy to help you understand the variety of available options depending on your application and goals.

Can you work across multiple states? Do you work internationally?

Yes. We can break down your options based on the markets which you operate in across your portfolio. From there, we will make recommendations on the most strategic ways to approach procurement for each facility and region. Foresight offers support with vetting and procurement of Energy Attribute Certifications (EACs) of all across the globe.
